A Year In The Life Of Tocci
Share
At Tocci company life is an important part of our culture.
It is important to us because we spend a lot of our life at work and life needs to be both purposeful and meaningful. The better we feel, physically and emotionally, about what we do and who we are, the better life. This in turn helps us to cope when stress sets in. By organizing, attending, and participating in various company life activities throughout the year where we can interact with numerous coworkers, we can understand what they are passionate about, what challenges them, and what makes them tick. At Tocci, we want a culture where staff pushes the envelope not just with innovative technology but with daily life, and the way we live.
Trampoline Dodge Ball
For those with a competitive side, this was a unique event that was new to many employees. Playing dodgeball with our fellow colleagues brought out the competitive side in all of us. We played for two hours and were completely exhausted by the end of it! It was great seeing each other outside of the office; you get to know each other in a different way.
Matt Ibrahim Lunch + Learn Mobilitity 101
Matt Ibrahim, a fitness expert, showed us techniques to move and stretch every 20 minutes. He gave a demonstration on how to properly complete a squat, pushup, and lunge, to name a few. Additionally, he provided us with a quick 5-minute warm-up to get you ready for any workout.
Paint Night
Tocci invited P.U.I., a local paint night organization, to the office on a Friday Night for a fun time of painting and socializing. Many attendees had never been to one or were dubious about how fun it could be. Quickly though, everyone got into the whole process and really became invested in the outcome. We had both employees and family members join in on the fun.
Yoga
Our Marketing Manager, Vanessa Rhoads, recently became a certified yoga instructor. To help her practice teaching, she has been leading 30-minute beginner yoga sessions. Some participants have been newbies to the practice and there are a few veterans, but everyone had a relaxing time stretching muscles they didn’t even know they had.
Backyard BBQ
In July, the Health + Wellness committee hosted a backyard BBQ with lots of healthy homemade food and fun activities. Everyone enjoyed getting outside and it gave new employees the chance to socialize with staff in different departments. We had a few first-time cornhole players who got right into the competitive spirit.
Fitbit Challenge
Over the summer, Tocci organized a group to participate in a month-long Fitbit challenge. Each weekend, Weekend Warrior challenges were issued to keep everyone active and to get more steps towards winning the overall month’s challenge. The overall winner was the most improved from the previous month. In total, the Tocci employees by a number of steps would have been able to walk from Boston to San Francisco.
Gardening
The Tocci garden crew was at it again. Starting in May, the crew began turning over the garden beds and mapping out where to plant the different veggies, fruits, and herbs. This year we even added a sixth bed, to expand the garden’s capacity. Throughout the summer, the gardeners get together to maintain the plants. Once the plants are ready to harvest, we pick them and bring them to the kitchen to share with everyone in the office.
Oktoberfest – Cocktail Parties
Every other month Tocci asks different departments to host a cocktail party with the prerequisite of developing a theme. One of these parties hosted by the VDC department was Oktoberfest themed. Which involved German beers, German foods, and pumpkin carving, which was especially fun for those who had never carved one before.
Softball Game
In August, a softball match was organized pinning the east wing of the office against the west. In the end, it was the wild west that won the ballgame after going into extra innings.
NH Hike
In October, some Tocci employees and their friends spent part of a Saturday climbing Mount Morgan and Mount Percival to take in some beautiful views of New Hampshire.
Red Sox Outing
In August, Tocci Employees, friends, and family headed to Fenway to see the Red Sox take on the Indians. It was a great night of cheering on our favorite players, munching on our favorite ballpark snacks, and dancing along to the music.
Terrarium Building
During a lunch break in November, Tocci employees got together to build terrariums to bring some green into their homes and to brighten up the long winter days to come. Each had a unique container so it was fun to see how they all came together. The materials were laid out on tables like ingredients with diagrams of the layering methods for both the succulents and tropical arrangements. Rocks, carbon, peat moss, soil. Some took them home and others gave them as gifts.
Thanksgiving Potluck
At the beginning of November, Tocci hosted a Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch to raise money for the local food bank. Everyone raved about the food and was completely stuffed by the end of the meal. We hope to continue the tradition again next year!
